Catlins Wilderness Day Tour

Discover the untamed beauty of New Zealand’s Catlins coastal area. A remote and untouched final frontier and a true natural paradise. This full day tour will allow you to discover the natural wonders and history of the Catlins. Our experienced driver guide will take you on an in depth tour of what the region has to offer. Providing commentary and stories along the way.  

Explore the Catlins travelling by small bus. Learn all about the area’s history, flora and fauna and much more. The tour will include a few short walks, impressive lookouts, visiting a local and unique art gallery. Discovering local landmarks and natural gems. Pristine untouched beaches, the southern ocean, native rainforests and waterfalls. And we will always be trying to spot some local wildlife along the way!  

Lunch is included at a local cafe/restaurant. 

After lunch you will resume the tour with a walk off the beaten track to a wild beach in search of local wildlife. The final stop takes you to Nugget Point and the Lighthouse. The tour ends in Owaka. 

Departs from Owaka Museum at 9am. Returns at 430pm. The Tour runs everyday except Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Minimum of 4 people. Child rate is 14 years old & under.

Tour Departure Point The departure point for the full day Catlins wilderness tour is at the Owaka Museum. Please arrive at 845am for check in. 15 mins prior to the scheduled tour start time. Lots of parking available around this location.

Pick-ups & Drop-offs We provide a complimentary pick-up and drop-off service from Balclutha Isite (8am) and Kaka Point Surf club (830am).  Drop off transfers will be done at the end of the tour after the official finish in Owaka at 430pm.

Your pickup must be requested when making your booking, our reservations team will confirm your pickup time via email.

Food & Drink Lunch is included but not until 130pm after a busy morning. Please feel free to bring food or a snack with you. There is a 4square supermarket across the street from our departure point in Owaka. We do offer a complimentary muffin and tea during the morning.

Fitness Some walking is required during the tour. A medium level of fitness is preferable as the terrain includes hilly footpaths, sandy beaches and bush tracks. 

 Clothing & Footwear The tour is operated in the wilderness and outdoors. The weather can change very rapidly on the coast so we recommend to bring along something warm and waterproof just in case. The tour guide will provide a weather report at the beginning of the tour. Functional sporting comfortable footwear is recommended.   

Medicines & Health Conditions Personal medicines should be carried on all tours. Any health condition which could potentially be a problem should be disclosed before the commencement of a tour. The terrain visited is not suitable for persons with walking disabilities and wheelchairs.

Cancellation Policy

We will provide A full refund or credit for a future date for cancellations more than 24h prior to your tour. We reserve the right to charge up to 100% for bookings cancelled within 24h of your scheduled start time, or for no-shows.

If your tour is cancelled by NZ Agency Tours we will try to reschedule your tour to another day (subject to availability). If this is not possible we will provide a full refund.
